Portrait of a Young Lady

A young woman, Pattie Kelly, a waitress at Bill Knapp's restaurant in Grand Rapids is the model for this painting. Bill Knapp's was one of Merizon's favorite restaurants for decades; a place where everyone knew his name. As was his custom, when he saw a woman who's looks he liked, he would ask if she would model for him. This was one of the last portraits he made as his eyesight would soon betray him for work that required such detail. Miss Kelly's family did not purchase the painting and it joined the art collection at Butterworth Hospital.
