Reed's Lake

Plein air painting of the northeast side of Reed's Lake, East Grand Rapids, MI. Merizon spent a lot of time exploring and painting the area around this small lake. The painting has been signed in cursive, Armand Merizon, in lower right corner. A way to tell that this is an early Merizon is the tree, almost in the middle of the painting. Good composition was one of the most important aspects of Merizon's work as an accomplished painter and the location of the tree is not favorable. I'm sure if he were to have looked at this painting in his later years he would have wanted to burn it as he did with many works that he was dissatisfied with.
