Sunday Morning

A young girl sitting on the steps of her home with her chin in her hands. She appears to be deep in thought about something. There is a combination of realism and geometric abstraction in this painting that makes it seem to be incomplete at first glance. The gaping dark of the open door behind her gets first attention, then takes in the girl and the finally the background which appears to be homey and cheerful. The shadows of tree limbs on the house siding is so real in contrast next to the stark porch where the girl is. The unfinished quality of the foreground gives a feeling of poverty or emptiness.

Signed in the lower right corner, with a ©. This sign was used often in the '70's when the artist was under contract with the Bergsma Gallery or Amway.
