Poetry Inspired by Art

The proprietor of Sanctuary Folk Art, a Grand Rapids art gallery, helped the Fountain Street Church Art Committee and the Great Lakes Commonwealth of Letters, now Write616, select artwork for an exhibit of poetry inspired by art during July and August, 2017. The 21 works selected are shown below.  Writers submitted poems through the Write616 website, https://write616.org/. The exhibition of poems and artwork took place in the Keeler Lounge of Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Ekphrastic Projects is derived from “ekphrasis”,  the Greek word for a description of a work of art produced as a rhetorical exercise. The Poetry Foundation defines an ekphrastic poem as one inspired or stimulated by a work of art.
