Thomas D. Gilbert

Artist: Lorado Taft
Medium: Bronze
Location: Veteran’s Memorial Park on Fulton Street East between Sheldon Avenue NE and East Park Place NE.
Notes: This bronze bust of Thomas Gilbert was created in 1895 to honor a businessman who came to Grand Rapids in 1855 and held many civic positions here. Mr. Gilbert was known for his generosity. He personally tended the park, keeping cattle and swine out of the park, building walks, and planting trees, some of which are still seen in the park today.
