The Road Is Rough

Commissioned for a presentation print by the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. Some of the tiny signs in the background and the foreground are only visible under a magnifying glass (as seen in many of his works), This print is the first in my collection, I acquired this print from my brother James Straub, *In 1943 Weidenaar became engaged to Ilse Eardmans. The etching he was working on at the time features one of the most endearing personal inscriptions. The Road is Rough features a sign which reads ; NOTICE / THIS ETCHER HAS MET HIS / DREAM GIRL AT AGE 28, AND IS / GETTING MARRIED / GET HIS STUFF NOW - / WHILE HE IS ETCHING FOR / A REPUTATION - INSTEAD OF A FAMILY * Reynold Weidenaar A Retrospective.
