The title is thought to be a reference to Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, a Bohemian-Austrian composer and violinist who lived 1644 to 1704. Biber was among the major composers for the violin in the history of the instrument, writing operas, sacred music and music for chamber ensemble. In the late 20th century Biber's music, especially the Mystery Sonatas, enjoyed a renaissance.
