Newton Carter in his Barber Shop
The first of two portraits drawn by Armand Merizon when he was a teen. Mr. Newton Carter owned a barbershop on Eastern Ave near Sherman St, Crand Rapids, MI. Merizon had his hair cut by Mr. Carter as his father did. Mr. Carter only cut white peoples hair, as Merizon understood. Merizon was very fond of Mr. Carter and they had long talks together. Chantal bought from Kim Smith @ Perception Gallery, Grand Rapids, Mi. in 2010 after Merizon had passed. It was sold to Kim by David Pryce. Pryce bought it from an estate sale.
