The Stone Crusher

Written on the back in the hand of Beth Merizon, Armand's sister, The Stone Crusher, The Gravel Pit ca 1939 or '40, given to Beth. This is a very early Merizon. Interesting because of blackish tree on the right side. In his later years Merizon knew that you never painted a tree on the edge of a painting. Bad composition. Armand often gave his work to his family members when he was young. Signed Merizon in the lower left corner. The gravel pits were in Grand Rapids, MI. a subject for several early works.
