Uniting Sun and New Dawn Rising

Location: Intersection of River and Pine Avenues.
Notes: Organizers of the Celebrating Our Diversity Public Art Project raised funds and commissioned Cyril Lixenberg to create works reflecting the importance of cultural diversity and unity in the community. While its name reflects its Dutch heritage, the city has a growing population of people with Hispanic, Asian, African, Middle Eastern and Native America roots. Uniting Sun stands at the south end of the River Avenue bridge now known as “Unity Bridge.” A companion work, also by Lixenberg, “New Dawn Rising”, lines both sides of the bridge. Uniting Sun and New Dawn Rising were dedicated in October, 2014. Mr. Lixenberg died in January, 2015 at age 82. These works at are the last installations he personally supervised.
